Singapore may be a cosmopolitan city but there’s also a thriving ecosystem of nature and wildlife adventures at every turn. Nature lovers can look forward to exploring the rainforests and wetlands for an undisturbed experience. Or simply wander through the many landscaped gardens and parks on the island, with some even offering a scenic view of the city from vantage points.

For wildlife lovers, the nature reserves are a hotbed for thousands of creatures, including many bird and insect species. And if that’s not enough, you can make a trip to the Zoo, Night Safari or Jurong Bird Park for an up-close encounter with some of the world’s most ferocious and rarest species.

Singapore Botanical Gardens
A visit to Singapore would not be complete without seeing the grandeur of the internationally renowned Singapore Botanic Gardens. Wander around the 64 hectares of beautiful horticultural and botanical displays, and don’t miss the National Orchid Garden, where you can feast your eyes on over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids – including Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim.

Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, established the first botanical garden in 1822, with the garden’s present site founded by the Agri-Horticultural Society in 1859. Conservation is an important part of the gardens’ role, with projects, tours and workshops that focus on and promote nature awareness.

While you’re here, join a tour to learn more about the various plant and tree species, attend workshops to cultivate your green fingers, or enjoy the free musical concerts held at the Symphony Stage. Joggers will also relish the miles and miles of running space in this expansive garden.

Singapore Zoo
Stretching over 28-hectares of land, the Singapore Zoo has an open concept that allows you to gaze at animals in their natural and spacious habitats, while remaining protected by dry or wet moats. Take a stroll and discover monkeys, giraffes, birds, gorillas and even a zebra or two. Explore regions around the zoo that showcase a variety of wildlife and see the exotic vegetation as you marvel at the cotton-top tamarins and siamangs on the Rainforest Walk. Spend the morning at the zoo and have a Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife, where you’ll share breakfast with friendly orangutans and watch the elephants take their morning bath.

Night Safari
When the sun goes down the animals come out to play. Singapore is home to the world’s first wildlife night park, and with over 1,000 nocturnal animals, it’s an experience not to be missed. Take a tram or walking tour around the eight geographical regions of the park and see the animals as they graze and hunt in natural environments. You can also experience a host of shows and attractions as you make your way around the park, including the wondrous Creatures of the Night Show, an amazing half hour demonstration of the animals’ predatory and survival skills. With lions, elephants, rhinos, hyenas, deer and tigers and more, you’ll be bowled over by the Night Safari’s atmosphere.
